10 Golden Rules

1/ Knowing your size

70% of women don't know their bra or cup size. However, a bra well fitted makes you feel well and comfortable all day long. To preserve and embellish your breast, you can get your measurements done in a lingerie specialized shop.

2/ Choosing the right model

Breast shape varies from one woman to another. Breast can be in a pear shape, apple shape, etc... Every breast shape matches one or a few bra's cuts. A good support depends on the material choice, the strap's width, the way the bra is built, (in 3 parts to spread the weight of the breast onto the entire bra and not only on the front).

3/ Opting for a quality bra.

The breast is a 3 dimension organ that will differ from one woman to another: those 3 dimensions are the size, the depth and the volume. A good comfortable bra is first of all a bra whose straps, underwire, reinforcement and cup's shape are in place to support the breast without impeding the skin. For a bra to be a beauty asset, it is important that the quality is good.

4/ Adjusting well your bra

Badly positioned or adjusted, the bra looses its efficiency and comfort. How to position it well? The underwire should not impinge over the breast. The bra must be horizontally well positioned on the back, neither too tight or too loose. Hook your bra to the tightest position that your body will comfortably allow and place two fingers underneath the band. If your band when stretched is more than 4cm, the back size is too big. Try hooking your bra on a tighter hook for a firmer hold. Lift your arms in the air. Your bra should not move away from your body nor should it slide during normal activity. The frame should fit firmly against your body and the band beneath your shoulder blades.

5/ Adjusting the straps

The straps, if not well adjusted, can hurt the shoulders. It is important to adjust them well. Their width must depend on the weight of the breast to avoid red and painful marks. The strap position should run vertically over your shoulder where your collarbone meets the round of your shoulder. Do not taper in straps towards the neckline nor angle in an outward direction. Adjust the strap length by pushing the slide to a position where it is not too taut or too loose. Place your thumb underneath the strap at shoulder point. If your straps extends more than 1-2cm from your shoulder, it should be tightened. The straps must sit comfortably on the shoulders without digging into the skin.

6/ Positioning of the cups

The frame of a bra provides the majority (80-90%) of the support for the breast, with the straps providing the rest (10-20%) of the support. If your breast do not sit comfortably in the bra cups, place your hand beneath your breast and sweep your breast (in the bra cup) towards the opposite collar bones, so as to rest comfortably in the cups. Ensure that your bust is held securely in the bra cups and tip slightly forward. Your breast tissue should not tip out of the cup. Slip the shoulder straps off your shoulders. Your bra should stay in place, if not your back band is too large. Try going down one back band size (and up one cup size)

7/ Your bra as a beauty asset

If your bra is well fitted, you'll forget you are wearing it. Enhancing your breast will make you feel good and confident. Feeling like extra support? Choose a 3 parts full cup or a full cup underwire bra. Wanting discretion? Opt for a molded shaped bra. If you are looking for volume , here are the key words: push-ups, padded half-cups bra and balconnette.

8/Preserving your breast

The breast is mainly made out of adipose tissues and vessels. It doesn't have any muscles. Only the skin supports it, skin which naturally looses its elasticity with time. To prevent the breast to collapse and remain beautiful, it is essential to provide the best support from the youngest age. Here are a few tips to take care of your breast on a daily basis: Strengthen the tissues and boost the blood circulation with a squirt of cold water, keep yourself in a straight position, stay hydrated (hydration is the secret for a beautiful skin), avoid as much as you can the positions that can squash the breast, like sleeping on your front or crossing your arms under your chest.

9/ Keeping an eye on size changes

The volume of the breast varies all life long, depending on many factors such as hormones changes (pregnancy, menopause, ovulation cycles, etc...) or variations in weight and age. No matter what phase in life you are going through, an always well fitted bra will allow you to control big volume changes of the breast.

10/ Taking care of your lingerie

A bra is made out of gentle material (laces, silk, cotton, etc...) It is necessary to take good care of it not to spoill its efficiency and beauty and also to keep it as long as possible. Here are some tips: hand wash, do not mix colors, use lukewarm water (30°C) and a mild laundry detergent. Never use chlorine or bleach. Always rinse after washing. Spin your lingerie softly (800rpm max) and dry it flat. If your only choice is washing machine, use a soft laundry powder, 40°C max. Place it in a cleaning net or a pillowcase before throwing it into the tumbler. Tumble drying is absolutely forbidden. It may break the elasticity of your lingerie, make it shrink or flatten your padded bras. Never iron.
